Tailoring of the molecular weight distribution (MWD) in ethylene polymerization was attempted by selectively combining different types of metallocene catalysts onto a single support. The catalyst produced by supporting Et[Ind] 2 ZrCl 2 and Cp 2 HfCl 2 onto a single MAO pretreated silica support was

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Polymerization of ethylene and propene were conducted with bis(cyclopentadienylzirconium dichloride) (Cp~2~ZrCl~2~) and ethylenebis(1βindenyl)zirconium dichloride (Et(Ind)~2~ZrCl~2~) combined with trialkylaluminium compounds using heteropolyacids as the counterβanions, giving linear polyethylene and isotactic polypropene, respectively. No polymer was obtained when using Cp~2~Zr(CH~3~)~2~ instead of Cp~2~ZrCl~2~. The mechanism of the formation of active species is briefly discussed on the basis of these results.
