โฆ Synopsis
This message to readers of Historia Mathematica will be the last I write on behalf of the International Commission on History of Mathematics. For the past eight years I have been pleased to serve as ICHM Chair, an office to which I was first elected in 1985. After two terms, it is both timely and appropriate for me to relinquish this responsibility, and beginning January 1, 1994, Eberhard Knobloch has traded his hat as Editor of the Commission's journal, Historia Mathematica, for that of its Chair. In this undertaking he will be joined by a newly elected Executive Committee, as indicated on the back cover of this issue of Historia Mathematica, an auspicious one as the journal begins its twenty-first volume.
If farewells are a time for reflection, then I am pleased to look back over the past eight years, during which I have been fortunate to work with the members of an exceptionally active Executive Committee, to each of whom I and the Commission owe a heartfelt debt of gratitude: to Sergei Demidov as Vice Chair, Kirsti Andersen as Secretary, Christoph Scriba and Menso Folkerts as Treasurers, and all of the members of the Executive Committee with whom I have had the pleasure to serve, including Kurt-R.
