โฆ Synopsis
It has been only four years since Genes, Chromosomes & Cancer began publication-yet in that brief time, there has been a remarkable expansion in molecular, cellular, and cytogenetic research on cancer cells. As a forum for the integration and dissemination of this vital information, Genes, Chromosomes & Cancer is now well-established among the most respected publications in cancer biology; indeed, the journal is now ranked within the top 10 journals in oncology published worldwide, based on citation statistics compiled by the Institute for Scientific Information.
T h e impressive growth of activity and advances in understanding cancer genetics is reflected in the increasing number of papers submitted to, and accepted for, publication in this journal. T o accommodate the influx of material, we are pleased to announce that beginning in 1993, Genes, Chromosomes & Cancer will expand in pages and frequency to publish twelve issues per calendar year. With a new issue appearing every month, the journal will provide an even more timely and accessible forum for original papers from leading researchers worldwide.
Genes, Chromosomes & Cancer continues its intended mission of reporting original work that challenges the frontiers of our knowledge and understanding regarding the molecular and cytogenetic alterations that reveal the mechanisms of neoplastic progression, as well as studies that point to prognostic and therapeutic advances in oncology made possible by applied molecular biology. In addition to full research papers, the journal includes short communications of noteworthy results, synthetic reviews, as well as a provocative new feature devoted to Perspectives in Oncogenetics-which together provide a comprehensive overview of emerging areas i n cancer research.
T h e Editors and Editorial Board of Genes, Chromosomes & Cancer remain committed to providing a peer-reviewed journal of the highest scientific standards, and we applaud their efforts and those of the many expert referees to disseminate more rapidly the dynamic and thought provoking work contributed. It is our ongoing goal to support the continued advancement of the interdisciplinary study of oncogenetics by fostering communication among researchers across the field.
We thank you, our readers, referees, contributors, and subscribers, for making this endeavor a success.
