โฆ Synopsis
It has been shown that, provided the pressure is not too high, variation of the loading density varies the linear burning rate but the mass burning rut,' remains essentially constant and the burning is quite slow and steady. Czne photographs have shown that a melting stage occurs during the burning process and by postulating the presence of an vffectively continuous molten I,a~,er, the constant mass burning rate is most easily explained. The observation of a slight increase in the mass burning rate when the particle size of a powder is increased supports this explanation ~ince larger particles would lead to a more irregular surface o] the molten layer and hence to a sontewhat l~ยข~t'r burning area.
