β¦ Synopsis
INCE HALPERT and Patzer3 first described S the retinal anlage tumor in the maxilla, there have been several reports of these tumors in the jaw bones. I n 1956, Eaton and Ferguson2 described a similar lesion in the epididymis, and Blanc et al.1 reported one over the deltoid area. We believe this to be the second case in the shoulder region.
REPORT OF A CASE
An African girl, 4 years of age, was admitted to Baragwanath Hospital, Johannesburg, Union of South Africa, on Oct. 11, 1959, with the complaint that there was a swelling on the left side of the back. This swelling was first noticed 3 years previously when it had appeared spontaneously. I t had apparently increased in size recently.
On examination, there was a swelling, 1 in. in diameter, at the superior angle of the left scapula. It was not tender and did not fluctuate. Overlying the swelling, there were a few scarification marks. T h e remainder of the history and of physical examination were essentially negative. T h e clinical diagnosis was that of a lipoma. At operation, a fluctuant mass was found in the subcutaneous tissue and was removed without any difficulty. On section, it was brownish and soft.
Microscopic examination showed that the tumor was not encapsulated. It consisted mainly of a connective tissue stroma that was loose in some parts and collagenous in others. Embedded in it were blood vessels and a few small bundles of nerve fibers. I n some areas, there was evidence of recent and past hemorrhage, with foci of xanthomatous reaction and deposition of hemosiderin. I n addition, there were foci of infiltration by lymphocytes, mainly perivascularly, and occasional neutrophils. A solitary foreign body granuloma was present. These inflammatory reactions could be accounted for by the scarifications on the over-

## Abstract The wood lemming (__Myopus schisticolor__) harbors two types of X chromosome, a normal X and a variant X, designated X\*. The X\* chromosome contains a mutation that causes XY sex reversal. We have previously demonstrated that the Xp21β23 region is deleted from X\* and is associated wit
