Some characteristics of Extensive Air Showers in the energy region of the knee of the cosmic ray spectrum (Eo = 1015 -1016 eV) are discussed, to discriminate its possible "hadronic" from "astrophysical" origin. Within the accuracy of such data, no clear "anomaly" suggesting a non expected behaviour

We present the EAS-TOP experimental data on the cosmic ray composition in the energy range 10 14 -10 16 eV, focusing on the connections with the hadronic interaction models used for the analysis.
