โฆ Synopsis
Low pressure fuel rich flames of ethylene oxide have been studied in a heated vertical flow reactor. Composition profiles were obtained through the reaction zone by sampling through a free quartz probe directly into a mass spectrometor. The effects of addition of ethylene and ethane have been investigated. The products formod in the flame were CO, H2, C2H 4, CH 4, C2H 6, C2H 2, C4H6 and C4H,,. The composition profdes showed little structure; all the products iw:reasing through the reaction zone except for ethane which reached a maximum coinciding with almost complete removal of fuel and oxygen. Added ethane was consumed in the flame, Evidence is presented which suggests that the OH radical is mainly responsible for removal of fuel during th~ early stages of reaction. Composition and temperature profiles are presented and probable reaction mechanisms are discussed.

The oxidation of propionaldehyde has been investigated in a l-L Pyrex reactor at total pressures of 50-120 torr and temperatures 553-713 K. Detection of reactants and products was principally by molecular beam mass spectrometry, although certain species could only be measured by gas-chromatographic
The diketo and ketoenol tautomers of aliphatic 1,3-diketones can be easily separated by gas chromatography. The mass spectra of tautomers of pentane-2P-diones substituted at C(1) and C(3), separated in this way, have been obtained. The fragmentation mechanisms are discussed. The mass spectra of the
Partial pressures of molecular species over solid PbO were measured in the temperature interval between 890 K and 1100 K using Knudsen-cell mass spectrometry. The assignment of ions is discussed in detail. Structural and vibrational parameters of the gas phase for (Pb n O n ) (n = 1,2,3,4) were calc
