Marriage had been the last thing on Jillian's mind when she discovered she was pregnant two months after a moment's indiscretion with a one-night stand. In fact, she hadn't even told Austin Bellaford that he was the father. Jillian had learned the hard way that the only person she could ever count on was herself. So she was caught completely by surprise when he showed up on her doorstep with a proposal.

It was more of a business arrangement than a proclamation of love. Austin's very controlling mother had promised to cut him out of his inheritance if he didn't "do the right thing". So if Jillian would agree to marry him, and pretend to be his wife for a year or two, he would see that she was well compensated. She quickly learned that even if it was all just pretend, she really did have to promise to obey him, or else!
