## Abstract This paper experimentally presents a low‐profile broadband post‐type monopole antenna. The characteristics of the antenna are highly dependent on the design parameters (__R__~__m__~, __h__~__m__~, __h__~__fl__~, and __R__~__g__~). Instead of a wire monopole, the proposed antenna is made

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
This article presents a low profile wideband top‐loading monopole antenna with a ring and four small post‐shape plates. And an inserted ring‐shaped plate makes a gap from the post element and leads to enhance wider and higher gain than the conventional top‐loading monopole. Four small post‐shape plates also lead to obtain higher antenna gain, uniformity radiation patterns. Moreover, top‐load also leads to reduce the height of antenna (a small antenna size). The experimental impedance bandwidth is approximately 1.55–2.73 GHz (% bandwidth is 55.14%) below with VSWR ≤2.0. This antenna also presents a wideband, a uniformity radiation patterns characteristic, respectively. The proposed antenna can be applied PCS, DCS, IMT‐2000, WLL. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ring-shaped plate is used to enhance the impedance matching and to increase the antenna gain, due to the low radiation resistance in the usable band. ## Abstract With the top loading of a shorted cross patch of equal arm lengths, a cylindrical monopole antenna can have a low profile (about 7.5% of the free‐space wavelength of the center operating frequencies) and broadband operation (larger than 23%). In addition, by comparing to the case of top
## Abstract By bending a planar monopole into an inverted‐U shape and short‐circuiting one end to the ground, a novel low‐profile monopole antenna with reduced backward radiation is obtained. The proposed antenna is easily fed by using a capacitively coupled feed, and is suitable for applications i
