โœฆ Synopsis

This paper proposes a lightweight dynamic rate control strategy for improving the quality of video transmitted over the internet. The proposed scheme includes a feedback mechanism from the receiver to the sender with periodic updates of packet drops. This information is used by the sender to estimate the congestion present in the network and to adjust the transmission rate to avoid further bottlenecks. A mathematical model that relates the three parameters: data rate, congestion present in the network and packet drops has been developed. Experiments were performed on a network consisting of several network elements to validate the model. Results indicate that the proposed dynamic control strategy improves the quality of video over IP networks.

In some image/video applications, the variable bit rate image/video bitstream will be transmitted over a constant bit rate transmission channel, in which a channel buffer is employed. In this study, a new rate control scheme for H.263 video transmission is proposed. Three proposed techniques include

In this work, we investigate the problem of bit-rate adaptation transcoding for transmitting video over burst-error wireless channels, i.e., channels such that errors tend to occur in clusters during fading periods. In particular, we consider a scenario consisting of packet-based transmission with a
