✦ Synopsis

A light-weight easily movable spreader for applying N-labelled fertilizer solution uniformly to field microplots is described. The spreader employs a peristaltic pump, which is driven by a sprocket wheel which is turned as it is pushed along a bicycle chain fixed to a 2•8 m long bar. The volume of solution applied by the spreader is precise irrespective of speed, concentration of the ammonium nitrate solution and ambient temperature; it is also uniform with respect to application distance.
