This paper presents the results of a design study of a large scale dual purpose power/water plant for the production of 200 MWe of power for sale and 83 imgpd of fresh water . The plant comprises a steam generating heavy water reactor (S .G .H.W .R .) with associated power plant and eight multi-stage flash distillation units each with a capacity of 10 .4 imgpd . An estimate of the overall capital cost of the facilities is given and the cost of fresh water is estimated at a stated power price.
