✦ Synopsis
The design of a.rule-based expert system using an intelligent agent problem-solving model for automatically generating programs to test digital devices is presented. Test programs are usually prepared and written by experienced test engineers. The system attempts to capture the knowledge of creating test programs and make the same reasoning process as would be made by a test engineer provided that a data book is available in his hand. Inexperienced test engineers usually face the complexity of the testers and the difficult methodology of testing digital devices. The system incorporates device test knowledge, tester control programming knowledge and reasoning techniques which enable it to create a test program based on the descriptions of that device. The knowledge used by the system is encoded as production rules. The system successfully produces efficient and wellstructured test programs for many SSI/MSI devices.
