✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A hybrid dense‐wavelength‐division‐multiplexing (DWDM) system using a combination of a Fabry–Perot (FP) laser diode, an optical circulator (OC), and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG), as well as half‐split‐band and WDM techniques, is demonstrated. It is a four‐wavelength system, in which two wavelengths are for AM–VSB video, one wavelength is for a 256‐QAM digital signal, and one wavelength is for OC‐48 digital baseband signal transmission. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ## Abstract We report a new all‐optical wavelength conversion scheme based on a self‐seeded Fabry–Perot laser diode with a chirped fiber grating as the external cavity. This converter can convert the wavelength of input optical signals into 14 discrete wavelengths with external RF modulation. We su

## Abstract A novel all‐optical technique for microwave generation using photonic crystal fiber Brillouin laser is presented, and a 9.78‐GHz microwave signal generator based on the Brillouin laser is experimentally realized. The Brillouin laser is based on a fiber Fabry‐Perot cavity with fiber Brag
