✦ Synopsis
Abstract
This paper presents a homodyne five‐port network analyzer operating at 94 GHz using a single five‐port junction. The homodyne detection is realized using a PIN diode amplitude modulator and an AC detection technique. The obtained results show that the system can operate at very low power with no need for detector linearization. The proposed system as well as the exact equations in the two operating modes—reflection and transmission—are described. New calibration procedures, with and without matched loads, are proposed for the two operating modes. Practical measurements, in reflection as well as in transmission, prove the validity and the high efficiency of the system. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
