โฆ Synopsis
We investigate bursting behaviour generated in an electrophysiological model of pituitary corticotrophs. The active and silent phases of this mode of bursting are generated by moving between two stable oscillatory solutions. The bursting is indirectly driven by slow modulation of the endoplasmic reticulum Ca 2+ concentration. The model exhibits different modes of bursting, and we investigate mode transitions and similar modes of bursting in other Hodgkin-Huxley models. Bifurcation analysis and the use of null-surfaces facilitate a geometric interpretation of the model bursting modes and action potential generation, respectively.

Hodgkin-Huxley-type models mimick the electrical behavior of excitable membranes quite realistically. However, inclusion of many different ionic channels into such a model yields a highly complex set of differential equations. In this paper a reduction of a "full" Hodgkin-Huxley-type model based on
A curve in (Z,T,gNo, UN,)-pmameter space of degenerate Hopf bifurcation for the Hodgkin-Huxley model is described. The curve includes all six of the "doubly degenerate" points from our earlier work [1,2]. The curve includes one special point at which m = 1, where m is the modal parameter. The recog
We have examined the problem of obtaining relationships between the type of stable solutions of the Hodgkin-Huxley type system, the values of its parameters and a constant applied current (I). As variable parameters of the system the maximal Na+(~Na), K+(~K) conductances and shifts (Gin, Gh, Gn) of
