✦ Synopsis
Abstract
In this paper, a new highly nonlinear dispersion‐shifted fiber (HN‐DSF) with an effective area of 9.3 μm^2^ is presented. This innovative HN‐DSF has a unique triple‐cladding structure, which offers not only a large nonlinear coefficient, but also low attenuation, low splicing, and bending losses. It is a very suitable candidate to implement an all‐fiber wavelength converter via four‐wave mixing (FWM). © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
