✦ Synopsis
An unprecedented reaction of a 8,y-unsaturated aldehyde (1) was discovered and has been used to synthesize (k_) dihydroactinidiolide ( 2) and (&) aeginetolide (3).
A recent report described the isolation of a phytotoxic compound from spikerush (Eleocharis w.).l
The principal toxin, dihydroactinidiolide (2),2 was shown to be a potent inhibitor of seed germination and root length elongation. Our interest in this molecule has led to a new and efficient single-step

Starting from the commercially available 3-amino-6-chloropyridazine, 3-amino-6-arylpyridazines were prepared in good yields by means of a Suzuki cross-coupling reaction avoiding the somewhat lengthy four-step classic synthesis.
