Abstract

In coordinate‐transformation‐based approaches to electromagnetic concealment (“cloaking”) of objects, use of higher‐order (quadratic) mappings has been proposed as an effective device to obtain satisfactory responses without the use of magnetic materials that are complicated to synthesize at optical frequencies. In this article, we explore a new higher‐order algebraic transformation, which allows, in principle, for a broader range of applicability and further parametric optimization. Via full‐wave numerical studies of near‐ and far‐field observables, we assess its performance by comparison with various reference cases (nonreduced parameters, quadratic transformation, no cloak). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider the higher-order Fierz transformation, which corresponds to expanding a product of ψ ψ terms into a sum of products of Dirac densities and currents. It is shown that the Fierz transformation can be obtained by solving a large system of linear equations with fractional complex coefficient

A circular Laguerre-Gaussian mode transformation by an astigmatic lens is considered theoretically as an example of the higher-order optical vortex symmetry breakdown. Behind the lens, an m-charged optical vortex converts into jmj secondary first-order vortices whose evolution upon the beam propagat
