โฆ Synopsis
Superconducting resonator systems with high Q at uhf cata be used to create capacitance probes, transforming mechanical motions into electrical signals. ~-4 To increase the efficiency of such devices it is essential that the resonator system should have not only high Q, but also electrical capacitance C r, the change in distance between the plates of which must be measured. For this purpose, co-axial superconducting resonators (scr) were prepared, capacity loaded, and their electrical parameters were measured as a function of their design and the preparation technique.
Four resonators were made, machined from bulk Nb: No 1 and 3 from NBP-1 commercial Nb of 99.9% purity, No 2 and 4 from 3-fold electron beam remelted Nb of 99.99% purity. All the resonators were mechanically polished and then electropolished in a HF-H2 SO4 mixture. In addition, resonators No 2 to 4 were anodized in a NH3 solution to form a protective Nb2Os film on the surface. Resonator No 2 was subjected to heating in high vacuum at ~ 1950ยฐC before machining.
