β¦ Synopsis
Vestibular schwannomas (VS) account for approximately 8% of all intracranial tumors and over 80% of all cerebellopontine angle neoplasms. Tumor progression is typified by indolent asymmetric hearing loss; less commonly imbalance, and facial nerve dysfunction ensue. While intratumoral hemorrhage (ITH) involving malignant intracranial neoplasms may occur in as many as 10-precent of tumors, gross hemorrhage within benign VSs is a rare phenomenon. Forty-three other cases involving VS ITH have been reported in the literature and 10 of these were apparently spontaneous in nature. Herein, we discuss the clinical presentation, radiographic evaluation and management of a 66-year-old male with a histologically confirmed hemorrhagic VS and review the literature.
