The leaves of Aloe arborescens var. Miller (Asphodelaceae) contain a mucilage (aloegel), which is typical for other members of the genus Aloe. The mucilage possesses various pharmacological activities, such as antiphlogistic and antiedematic effects as well as a treatment for burns including those c

β¦ Synopsis
A new chemotype glucomannan isolated from Candida utilis mutant was further studied with the aid of methylation analysis and fragmentation analysis by controlled acetolysis. Thus, it was revealed that the glucomannan has an o-(1+6)linked D-mannosyl backbone partially substituted with side chains of one, two, three, or four D-niannosyl units connected by CZ-( l--+2) linkages; moreover, it has an additional side chain in which D-glucose residues are linked through an (r-(1--4) linkage at the nonreducing ends of four D-mannosyl units.
