Abstract

One hundred and seventy‐three patients attending geriatric diabetic clinics were reviewed. The mean age was 79.2 years and 25% of patients were on insulin treatment, though most had Type 2 diabetes.

A high prevalence of large vessel complications such as stroke and ischaemic heart disease was found. Control of diabetes was poor and the reasons for this are discussed. There was minimal evidence of an association of poor control, history of smoking or hypertension with complications.
