✦ Synopsis
A general selective synthesis of b-, gand d-hydroxyethenyl ethers, a class of compounds containing two mutually reactive functionalities positioned at an interacting distance, is based on the reaction of diols with 1,2-bis-(phenylsulfonyl)ethylene (BPSE) followed by reductive elimination of the resulting b-phenylsulfonyl acetals with sodium amalgam.

A method for the synthesis of long chain fatty acids substituted at the to and to-1 positions has been developed. The key step is the isomerization of the triple bond of an alkyn-l-ol from an internal position in the chain to the free terminus with a new, convenient reagent, sodium aminopropylamide
The biologically stable w-['251]iodoundeceny1 cholesteryl ether has been synthesized via a hydroborationiodination sequence. The synthesis was used to prepare a high specific activity (no-carrier-added) reagent.
