This paper presents a modified Weibull stress model which accounts for the effects of plastic strain and stress triaxiality at the crack tip region. The proposed model is applied to predict cleavage fracture in a modified A508 pressure vessel steel. It is demonstrated that the Weibull modulus (m) re

β¦ Synopsis
A generalized method for formulating unit-jump Markov chain model is presented. This method uses geometric series to determine the transition probabilities instead of using a moment generation function. Recursive equation for the transition probabilities has been derived in terms of the mean values. Present method is also compared by other method for robustness. Application of the unit-jump Markov chain model for characterizing fracture process of composites is described. By introducing a proper scaling factor, the entire probability history of the crack propagation at any loading states can be evaluated by the present model.

Magnetic fluids comprise a novel class of engineering materials, where the coexistence of liquid and magnetic properties provides us wi
Back-calculation is a widely used method to estimate HIV incidence rates, and is commonly based on times of AIDS diagnosis. Following up earlier work, we extend this method to also incorporate knowledge of times of HIV diagnosis (first positive test). This is achieved through the use of a Markov mod
