✦ Synopsis
In this note, generalizing an idea of a previous paper, we derive a new expression of the characteristic polynomial of a linear system subject to static output feedback. From this expression an explicit form of the assignment equations in the unknown elements of the feedback matrix is obtained. The equations are completely general, and seem much simpler than many others proposed until now. In special cases a closed, or almost a closed form solution is obtained. The assignment equations are then used within an algorithm for global optimization to solve the problem of exactly assigning the eigenvalues of the nominal plant, while maximizing the norm of perturbation matrices for which the perturbed eigenvalues remain in speciÿed regions of the complex plane.
