โœฆ Synopsis

In this paper, a class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, called algebras of Cartan type W *, over a field F of characteristic 0 is studied. These algebras are ลฝ . derivations of the field F x , x , . . . , x . We prove that algebras of Cartan type 1 2 n W * are simple. We also prove that any derivation on an algebra of this type with one indeterminate is an inner derivation.

We construct four new series of generalized simple Lie algebras of Cartan type, using the mixtures of grading operators and down-grading operators. Our results in this paper are further generalizations of those in Osborn's work (J. Algebra 185 (1996), 820-835).
