✦ Synopsis

Several specific processing steps are required in any totally automated radiographic image screening system. A specific implementation to screen xeromammograms for breast cancer is described and evaluated on 100 patients. Performance is somewhat less than expected based on the accuracy of isolated system components. Such results illustrate the necessity for realistic testing procedures when evaluating systems employing pattern recognition techniques.
