✦ Synopsis

With this issue the Journal of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis enters its fifth year of publication and, more importantly, begins to establish itself clearly as a forum for discussion of fundamental issues in MCDA. Two papers in this issue are published alongside discussion, criticisms and rejoinders from the authors. We all know that our subject is vibrant with discussions between different methodologies and now our pages reflectindeed, are part of the medium ofthat debate. Two more papers will be published with such discussion in the coming issues and I am confident that the practice will continue. Might I also remind you that we are very happy to publish letters and comment? So join in the discussion and help shape our discipline. This volume will also see an increase in the number of papers which report true applications. Two
