β¦ Synopsis
A formal synthesis of the dipeptide sweetener aspartame via the oxaziridineamide rearrangement is reported. Thus, the peptidic oxaziridine 4 was prepared and was photochemically isomerized into the aspartame precursor I-As part of our programme for the non classical creation of peptide bonds, we recently described a non isohypsic method (1) essentially based on oxaziridine -amide isomerization (2). Here we wish to report a formal synthesis of the dipeptide sweetener aspartame by this method.
