In recent work we have derived formal rate laws for faradaic 1 and nonfaradaic 2 electrode processes. A characteristic of these types of processes is that they couple two otherwise independent components of the phases bordering the solutionelectrode interphase. In the present work we concern ourselves with a third important class of electrode processes in which only a single bulk phase component participates directly. Included in this class are processes conventionally characterized as "slow adsorption" processes. After developing the formal rate law for such processes we will consider the information available about them through study of the electrode impedance.
