Fluidic pulse timing to microsecond accuracy is used in a simple digital system with serve hydraulic boost to vary the geometry of a jet engine compressor.
Sununary--This paper describes a fluidic system for controlling the inlet guide vanes to the high pressure compressor of a two-spool jet-engine. The system employs mainly digital elements and operates by comparing the transmission time of a pulse in a temperature sensitive pneumatic delay line with a similar time delay dependent on engine speed. A digital output is obtained and used to drive a hydraulic serve system which operates the guide vanes. An ultra-sensitive pulse time comparator working to a tolerance of + 5//see enables the control parameter NMx/T2 to be measured to within + 0.15 per cent.
