We formulate a coupled vibration problem between a structure and an acoustic field in a mathematically rigorous fashion. A typical example of the structure is a car body that can be modeled by a cluster of thin plates. The problem leads to a nonstandard eigenvalue problem in a function space. Furthe

A coupled finite element (FE) and meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method for analyzing two-dimensional potential problems is presented in this paper. A transition region is created between the FE and MLPG regions. The transition region blends the trial and test functions of the FE and MLPG reg
