A new formulation of the eight-node hexagonal solid element is suggested in this paper. Using the new formulation, the computing time required for the construction of an element stiness matrix can be reduced and a new approach for constructing incompatible element models can be established as well.

The so-called enhanced strain ΓΏnite elements are based on the enrichment of the standard compatible strain ΓΏeld by the introduction of additional, non-compatible strains. This class of elements can be derived starting from a partial Hu-Washizu variational principle. However, since in the original en
In this paper, a mixed stress formulation for linear elastodynamic analysis based on a modified Hellinger-Reissner functional and a consistent approach for selecting finite element approximations are presented. The key idea in this new approach is to choose stress approximations by taking into accou
