✦ Synopsis

achieve control of the composition along the nanowhisker axis at an atomic level as in MBE, we require a better understanding of the growth process. However, these trials should be important for applications of nanowhiskers to various devices, for example, quantum dot optoelectronic devices ["] or single-electron tunneling (SET) devices," 31 which make good use of very small heterojunctions with nanometer-scale circular cross sections.

In any case, in order to realize such nanowhisker devices, we must develop techniques for the positioning of nanowhiskers with proper sizes, that is, the control of the generative sites and sizes of alloy droplets. Recent progress in producing ordered arrays of small Au allows us to anticipate the eventual fabrication of "nanowhisker devices" and the development of a technology for the self-assembly of semiconductor nanostructures to produce new electrical and optical fibrous materials.
