Abstract

The 1,7‐disubstituted tricyclo[4.1.0^2,7^]heptanes ^1a^ and b could be synthesized using Fe^III^‐catalyzed cross coupling methods. The reaction of LDA with 1a and 1b afforded an equilibrium mixture of the organolithium compounds 6 and 7, respectively. Whereas 6a/7a cyclized to the stable [4.1.1]propellane 8 in a 40% yield, 6b/7b gave rise to a 59% yield of [6.1.1]propelladiene 9 which polymerized on attempted distillation.
