Abstract
A direct method is described for the evaluation of the critical loads on deep circular arches having various forms of end support. The method is applicable to arches of nonβuniform flexural rigidity and may cater for arbitrary forms of applied load distribution. The results calculated for two examples are given, and compared with those obtained analytically and experimentally by other investigators. A complete listing of a computer program for one of the examples is provided in the Appendices.

A matrix method to solve a resistive MHD stability problem has been developed. The equations are reduced to an eigenvalue problem of block tridiagonal matrices. The inverse iteration method is employed as a solution method of the eigenvalue problem.
