โฆ Synopsis
The paper presents a new diplexer configuration composed of an ideal threeport circulator and two reciprocal lossless two-port networks. Since the circulator provides the needed isolation, it becomes much easier to achieve the desired insertion loss at the crossover ,frequency, as well as the frequency shaping. We show that the diplexer with the canonical Butterworth response can always be realized. Only one of the tw,o-ports is needed ij the required insertion loss at the crossover jtrequency is 3 dB. The design of' a diplexer composed of a circulator and two canonical Butterworth networks having low-pass and highpass characteristics is discussed. It is shown that, in this case, the problem is simplified to that of realizing two Butterworth networks.
