β¦ Synopsis
A real-time data acquisition computer system has been developed using an IBM PC/XT or PC/AT personal computer. Although the program was specifically written for Raman spectroscopy, it includes many subroutines which are generally useful for laboratory work. The PC coordinates all activities of the system, including photon counting, adjustment of optics within the spectrometer, display of spectra in real time, and analysis of data during acquisition. All of the hardware components are standard and commercially available. The program is written in FORTRAN-77 and assembly language, and conta.ins independent subroutine packages which may be used to make modifications for individual experiments. These routines provide instructive examples on sending TTL signals through the parallel port, clock-driven interrupts, graphics operations, and RS-232 interfacing.
