β¦ Synopsis
A rapidly increasing mass of experimental evidence is pointing to a wider participation of the anterior hypophysis in the physiology of the organism. If we are to understand these phenomena, a more careful cytological analysis of the gland is necessary in situations where changes either in its activity or in its morphology are demonstrated.
Any cytological study has at once to meet at least two important problems, first, a positive recognition of the known cell types and any changes that they may undergo in a secretory cycle, and, secondly, the relation of the distinct cell types to each other.
