โฆ Synopsis
Previous studies of the voltammetry of the Fe(III)/(II) couple in citrate and phosphate media have been by d.c., Kalousek, and oscillographic polarography. Lingane ~, Meites 2, Hamm et al. 3 and Heyrovsky 4, reported a reversible, pH dependent, one-electron wave for the reduction in citrate. Meites 2 reported up to three additional waves depending upon the pH. Masek and Mesickova s have recently reported that the oxidation of Fe(II) in phosphate medium is reversible according to the criteria of d.c. and Kalousek polarography; the product was an insoluble film on the mercury electrode. The present study was initiated to determine whether the voltammetry of the couple was complicated by coupled reactions, not detected in the polarographic studies, which would limit its utility as a model for theoretical investigations.
