โœฆ Synopsis

A method has been developed for determining the stability characteristics of a reverse jet flameholder from the stability characteristics of an adiabatic, homogeneous chemical reactor. The method involves the determination ofthe reactor loading parameter st blowout for a homogec, eous reactor, the ~.'~ass flow rate of reactants into the critic~.i zone and the volume of the critical zone. The calculated volumes were all less than 6'0 ml and compared well with volumes obtained by a temperature traverse of the critical zone reported in the literature. The calculated volumes were also correlated with system paramete,s. The method was then used to calculate the stability limits for the experimental system employed in the present investigation. The exnerimental stability data were obtained at various jet equivalence ratios from a standard two-inch combustion tunnel equipped with a water cooled reverse jet. The cakulated stability limits compared very well with the experimental stability limits.

A theoretical analysis is described for a methane-air diffusion flame stabilized in the forward stagnation region of a porous metal cylinder in a forced convective flow. The analysis includes effects of radiative heat loss from the porous metal surface and finite rate kinetics but neglects the effec
