β¦ Synopsis
A theory has been established which is suitable for estimating the thermodynamic properties of mixtures of a monomer-dimer associated liquid with a non-polar liquid. Based on the quasilattice theory of solutions account has been taken of co-operative orientation amongst the polar molecules as well as the hydrogen bonding phenomenon. This theory has been applied to the development of a correlation for the solubilities of non-polar gases in the lower carbon number carboxylic acids. The hypothetical two-step dissolution process of Prausnitz and Shair has been employed in the correlation. The average discrepancy between the experimental and estimated solubilities of thirteen gases in five carboxylic acids is 4.9 ner cent. The solubilities of carbon dioxide and radon are notable exceptions to the general correlation: 1. Relationship of W,, to CED for acid homomorphs.
