✦ Synopsis
Temperature dependence of initiation efficiency for radical polymerization has been studied. Azo-bisisobutyronitrile, 2,2"-azo-bis (2,4<limethyl, 4-phenyl) valeronitrile, methyl azo-bisisobutyrate, cetyl azo-bisisobutyrate and di-t-butylhyponitrite were used as initiators. Polymerizations were performed with methyl methacrylate, styrene and vinyl acetate.
It was shown that a decrease of primary combination and the resulting increase of initiation efficiency are due to residual negative charge or inaccessibility of radical carbon atom. The equations characterizing the temperature dependence of inRiation efficiency have been formulated. It is possible to determine polymerization conditions to give the maximum initiation efficiency.
