β¦ Synopsis
A computer program has been developed for determining the sizes of DNA restriction fragments from their electrophoretic mobiiities. A parabola is fitted to the mobilities of a set of standard fragments of known sizes and the sizes of the unknown fragments are then calculated from the fitted curve. This procedure is shown to yield estimated sizes which are accurate to within a few percentage, as judged by experiments with fragments obtained by digestion of pBR322 with the restriction endonuclease HaeIII. The program, which is written in BASIC, is simple to use and is very much faster than the graphical method that it replaces.

The assessment of sample size in clinical trials comparing population means requires a variance estimate of the main efficacy variable. When this variance estimate has a low precision, it may be appropriate to use the data from the first patients entered in the trial ('internal pilot study') to esti
## Abstract The computer is idcally suited for storing and retrieving a large volume of medical data. Described herein is a computer program written for the managemenr of data from patients who have had urodynamic evaluation. The program is highly userβoriented and requires only minimal training of
An important problem in heterogeneous computing (HC) is predicting task execution time. A methodology is introduced for determining the execution time distribution for a given data parallel program that is to be executed in an SIMD, MIMD (SPMD), and/or mixed-mode SIMD/MIMD (SPMD) HC environment. The
We describe a computer program which will rapidly analyze a set of DNA histograms without further operator intervention after the initial input. The algorithm used was modified from that of Watson et al. (Cytometry 8:1-8, 1987). The program, coded in Pascal, has been implemented on two different sys
