An efficient computing procedure is described for obtaining exact confidence limits for the mean of a Poisson distribution. It is shown how this procedure can be used to obtain the exact confidence limits for a standardized mortality ratio, a parameter of great interest to epidemiologists. An exampl

โฆ Synopsis
A computer program is described which tests the equality among standardized mortality ratios. Prior to the analysis of heterogeneity, the requirement of a multiplicative model is tested. The capability exists to combine given populations into subgroups before applying the test. Plots of age-specific rates and adjusted age-specific rates are optionally provided.
