✦ Synopsis
This paper provides guidelines for the analysis and design of pile-supported structures that support machine Ioadings using standard linear structural analysis packages. Current state-of-the-art methods for calculating pile impedance functions are reviewed, and procedures for evaluating stiffness and damping are selected. Because of the simplifying assumptions made to perform an analysis, the theories may give somewhat contradictory results. Opinions on the ranges of applicability of the various theories are given.
