Abstract
A novel composed right/left‐handed (CRLH) rectangular waveguide (RWG) is presented. It is periodically loaded with open‐ended corrugations, which allow energy radiating from them. Compared with previously referred left‐handed (LH) waveguides, this proposed structure is more effective for leaky‐wave antennas (LWAs) design. To determine the dispersion property, an equivalent circuit is given. Based on the CRLH RWG, a LWA is achieved and analyzed by full wave simulation, which supports the backward‐to‐forward beam scanning by frequency above 7.45 GHz. The obtained propagation and radiation results are in good agreement with theoretical suggestions. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
