✦ Synopsis

A MAPLE system compiles de®nitions of regular grids into a custom FORTRAN program. These regular grids are de®ned in terms of symbols which represent the geometry of the object being analyzed. The FORTRAN program takes as input, the numeric values for these symbols. It generates the global stiness matrix, K. This is solved for the displacement vectors in the equation Kx = B. This system produces the same displacements as NASTRAN and has been benchmarked favorably against this commercial product.

The paper presents a general and straightforward procedure based on the use of the strain energy density for deriving symmetric expressions of the secant and tangent stiffness matrices for finite element analysis of geometrically non-linear structural problems. The analogy with previously proposed m
