## 0 with r ) 0 and m ) 1, and show some applications of the theorem to the nonexistence problem of positive solutions of quasilinear equations. Basic models leading to such nonlinear equations are the degenerate Laplace equation and the steady-state porous medium equation.
In this paper, under some suitable conditions, we establish a general comparison theorem for positive solution of the following initial value problems: = 0, and Β©2001 (p2(r)g(v(r))~.a(v'(r)))' + q2(r)f (v(r)) = 0, r > 0, v(O) = vo, 4(0) = O.
It is proved that monotone convergence of a third order bracketing method for nonlinear systems with convexity hypotheses is improved whenever the starting points are chosen corn ponentwise as close to the root as possible.
